Scholarship winner selected

Updated: Jul 13, 2019

With a deserved sense of accomplishment, Sydney Carmichael from Wetumpka High Shool (WHS), received a $1000 scholarship for her college art studies. She is the first winner of the annual award given in memory of The Kelly's beloved Sylvia McConnell. Friends, family and Sydney's art teacher, Adriane Duvall, joined her for the celebration during the June Tuesday with Kelly.

Other WHS students showed their art as well while those in attendance enjoyed voting for their favorites. Winners of small cash awards were 1st, Amber Dye; 2nd, Andre Bordlee; and 3rd, Sydney Carmichael.

Treasurer Barbara Bennett explains that though The Kelly has collected over $7,000, it will need at least $25,000 to fully fund this scholarship in perpetuity. It is a long-term goal that is greatly supported by The Kelly Board members.
