When awarding this grant, the Alabama State Council for the Arts was looking for a community project involving architecture, landscape or historic preservation during 2020-2021. The money is specifically directed toward a Phase I planning/feasibility study with the enticement of being eligible in the future for a construction phase. The Kelly was thrilled to be selected.
According to the Council's website, "The Kelly Fitzpatrick Memorial Gallery in Wetumpka was awarded a $10,000 planning grant for a feasibility study for acquiring a permanent facility in Wetumpka. They were displaced from their previous location as a result of the devastating tornado in 2019 and are seeking to establish a new space that includes artist studios and a gallery."
The grant covers fees for studies and estimates so that any renovation and/or construction can be held to the highest standard. In the words of President Belyn Richardson, "Whoop whoop" is clearly a cry of joy to obtain this assistance!
This is great news and although I am so excited, I'm not surprised. The Kelly runs an authentic gallery and business that The Arts Council as well as The State of Alabama can be proud of. Way to go my friends!
