Kelly SEWS!!!

Kelly Fitzpatrick with his trusty 1950s Singer

Who knew? Obviously, Curator Carol Hickman knew because she is the one with the idea for Home and Hearth exhibit. Libby Christensen jumped in and offered to have her quilt/sewing pattern business Christensen Creations sponsor the exhibit because it was "right up her alley." Together, they have created a truly unique art exhibit with the help of 17 gracious lenders, several of whom helped hang the unusual art.

Home and Hearth showcases antique and modern quilts and even teeny miniature quilts, but much more than quilts. Included are handmade clothes from baby to child to adult jackets. There are knitted sweaters, hem-stitched altar cloths, and crocheted tablecloths. Applique items vary from totebags to wall hangings to an antique dress. There are needlepoint pictures and pillows, cross-stitched pictures, pillows and Christmas stockings. For the kitchen are decorated hot pads and apron. For baby, there are a diaper bag and hooded towel as well as a couple of exquisite christening gowns.

Several knitted/crocheted hats, scarfs and handmade purses add to this eclectic collection. There are two exquisitely hand-woven pieces. There are even a few pieces for sale; The Kelly will receive a percentage from any sales.

This is truly a gorgeous selection of new and old heirlooms. It will be on display until April 28, open whenever the Chamber of Commerce is open. Enter through the Chamber door. A reception will be held later--postponed due to Covid situation, but Kelly members will be notified of the date. If you would like to bring a small group for a private tour, contact Curator Carol Hickman at (334) 391-5090. Allow plenty of browsing time. We have a booklet that gives all the back stories/histories/inspirations for these very beautiful, very special items.
