TWK Gets Many Door Prizes

Finally finished hanging Home and Hearth

Did someone say prizes? Yes, Libby Christensen is donating multiple prizes for everyone who attends (with mask) the Tuesday With Kelly at noon on January 19. She also promises cupcakes in quilt colors to go with her talk on "The Art Elements in Quilting." She will point to items in the new Home and Hearth exhibit as well as quilts she brings to illustrate the elements such as color, chiaroscuro, image, texture, etc. "Quilting can be like a simple paint--by-numbers, but it can also be a masterpiece. It's not all about technique of stitching. There are also choices that can raise the artistic level," she explains.

Owner of Christensen Creations, Libby has published over 80 patterns for quilts and "cute quilted items," such as hot pads, totebags, and sweatshirt jackets on her website www.sewgocreate.com Her patterns are digitally transmitted to the customers. More than a quilter, Libby knits, crochets, does embroidery, crewelwork, needlepoint and has worked as a costumer.

Libby entered items in every category of this exhibit, and she has done the same to the Alabama National Fair, three years winning about 60-65 ribbons each time. Many of her prize-winning items are also on display as part of the Christensen Creations Collections. Some are even offered for sale with a percentage donated to The Kelly. Her lifelong interest in all needlework is what moved her to sponsor this exhibit. "I was so excited when Curator Carol Hickman announced this exhibit. I couldn't wait to show people how quilting and other needlework are forms of art that are often overlooked."
